Queen Elizabeth II, 96, will for the first time in 69 years miss the opening of parliament and she has cited “mobility problems.”
Prince Charles has been dispatched to attend in her place and will deliver a speech on behalf of the Queen.
Queen Elizabeth II has been on the throne for 70 years.
“The Queen continues to experience episodic mobility problems, and in consultation with her doctors has reluctantly decided that she will not attend the State Opening of Parliament tomorrow,” said Buckingham Palace.
“At Her Majesty’s request, and with the agreement of the relevant authorities, The Prince of Wales will read The Queen’s speech on Her Majesty’s behalf, with The Duke of Cambridge also in attendance. “
In 2015, Queen Elizabeth II became the longest reigning monarch in the history of Britain.
One year ago, the Queen’s husband, Prince Philip passed on at age of 99. He was the longest serving consort in Britain’s history.
