Russia has reportedly lost its high-ranking officer since the start of the war in Ukraine.
Denis Mezhuev a Lieutenant Colonel was killed in the line of duty.
A Russian politician wrote on social media that: ‘Denis Mezhuev died in battle. His son can be proud of his dad.’
Andrey Kovalev, Pro-Putin poet, called upon the Kremlin to award Lt Col Mezhuev the nation’s top honour posthumously. He said: ‘For his deed he is worthy of the title of Hero of Russia.’
According to Ukraine, Russia has lost a total of 7 generals and 33 colonels. In overall, Russia has lost a total of 20,000 people since the war started on 24 February. However, Russia is hesitant to provide accurate statistics on this matter.
Lt General Yakov Rezantsev, the commander of Russia’s 49th combined army was killed in a strike near Kherson on March 25.
