A minimum of 62 people have been killed and 66 others injured during a huge explosion at Shiite mosque Afghanistan in Kandahar during Friday prayers.
The Taliban interior ministry spokesman Qari Saeed Khosti stated that authorities were investigating the explosion which was caused by a suicide bomber attack. The attacker is believed to be a member of the Islamic State Group.
Journalists posted video footage and photos of the sad explosion of a Shiite mosque Afghanistan on social media. People were seen dead or wounded on the bloody floor of Imam Bargah mosque.
A health official stated that 62 people were reported dead while 66 others were wounded. The numbers are expected to rise. Ambulances were still bringing in victims.
Taliban Special forces arrived to secure the site and the government sent out an appeal for residents to donate blood to benefit those who were wounded.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.
This is the second terror attack in Afghanistan in a week after another attack happen in Afghan City of Kunduz where 50 people died. The Islamic State Khorasan Province claimed to be responsible for the attack.
