Seven Cabinet Secretaries and KRA Boss Risk Being Charged for Participating in Political Campaigns
The National Super Alliance (NASA) is determined to file cases against the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Chief, seven Cabinet Secretaries (CS) and a principal secretary for alleged spending state resources to campaign for Jubilee Party.
NASA gave an ultimatum of 7 days to the Director of Public Prosecution to charge the said officials. If he fails to take action, they have threatened to move to court and file the cases.
Below are the Cabinet Secretaries who are targeted by NASA for involvement in campaigns:
- Fred Matiang’I – Education
- Mwangi Kiunjuri – Devolution
- Joseph Nkaissery – Interior
- Eugene Wamalwa – Water
- Najib Balala – Tourism
- Cleopa Mailu – Health
- James Macharia – Transport
The KRA boss John Njiraini is also on the radar of NASA so is Joseph Njoroge the Energy principal secretary. The two have been accused of not only attending but also contributing during a fund raising event organized by Jubilee Party.
The law bars state officers from participating in election campaigning. To counter these allegations, the Cabinet Secretaries have argued that they are doing what they are mandated to do by demonstrating their achievements during the last couple of years.
