Manuel Pellegrini will take charge of Real Betis as from next season, the club confirmed on Thursday.
The 66-year-old Chilean tactician has agreed a three-year contract at Benito Villamarin.
Pellegrini has been without a team since being dismissed by West Ham United in December 2019.
Betis sacked head coach Rubi just three games after the League resumed, following a hiatus caused by the pandemic, leaving the team 14th in the table.
Sporting director Trujillo will be in charge of the team for the rest of the campaign. He has won twice in five league games.
Pellegrini won the Premier League and two EFL cups with Manchester City in his three years at the club.
Real Betis statement read: “Real Betis have appointed a coach of a high level and big international prestige to elevate the performance of the first team in a three-year project.’’
Other sides managed by Pellegrini in the Spanish top-flight include Real Madrid, Villarreal and Malaga.
