According to Centre for Disease Control (CDC), people visiting Ethiopia are advised to be vaccinated for yellow fever.
The outbreak is reported to have occurred on March 2020 as reported by the Ethiopian Public Health Institute.
The Yellow Fever is carried by mosquitoes hence the rainy season increases the rate of infections and it is more prevalent in the Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR).
Robert Carlson writing for Vax Before Travel website advises that travellers should mind of their health risks when visiting Ethiopia.
CDC warned that people over the age of 9 months are required to take a yellow fever vaccine at least 10 days before travelling to Ethiopia.
Yellow fever is know to be deadly and yellow fever vaccine is the best available protection from infections.
As at April 2020, Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Region was considered a risky region in Ethiopia.
For those travellers who received their vaccine 10 or more years ago are advised to consult their doctors in order to get a booster dose of the vaccine before travelling to Ethiopia.
Stamaril (Yellow Fever vaccine) has been used around the world to protect people from getting infected with Yellow Fever.
Experts have indicated that it is important to contact your doctor because the vaccine is not recommended for some people.
Travellers are also advised to prevent mosquito bites during their travel to Ethiopia through use of mosquito repellent, sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets, wearing long sleeved shirts and pullovers and sleeping in air-conditioned rooms.

- Backache
- Muscle aches
- Fever
- Headache
The incubation period is 3-6 days after being infection. Approximately 15% of the people who get infected with yellow fever end up with organ failure, bleeding and sometimes death.
