Madagascar’s education minister Rijasoa Andriamanana has been fired over plans to order more than $2m worth of sweets for schoolchildren, the BBC reports.

Minister Andriamanana said the sweets would mask the bitter aftertaste of the herbal remedy for Covid-19.

The minister was planning for three sweets per child.

Madagascar’s president however called off the plan after it faced objections.

President Rajoelina is the promoter-in-chief the herbal tonic Covid-Organics as a cure for coronavirus.

The concoction is made from the Artemisia plant.

Some African countries continue to import the Covid-Organics but the WHO has warned that there is no cure for the virus.

About 1,000 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Madagascar, with the virus claiming 7 lives.
