More than 812 health workers in Nigeria have tested positive for Covid-19 according to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the BBC reports.
The West-African country has a population of about 200Million people.
Chikwe Ihekweazu, the NCDC’s Chief Executive, said on Tuesday that 29 of the infected health workers are staff at the agency.
More than 10,000 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Nigeria with the virus claiming 314 lives.
Two months ago, the Nigeria Medical Association attributed the infection due to lack of adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
However, Mr Iheakweazu says NCDC had distributed 4,000 PPE’s to the healthcare workers.
Meanwhile, the government of Nigeria has revered its earlier directive that prohibited private hospitals from treating coronavirus patients.
