Borussia Dortmund midfielder Axel Witsel will not be fit in time to play against Wolfsburg on Saturday.
The 31-year-old Belgium international has not yet recovered from an injury that forced him to miss Dortmund’s 4-0 win over rivals Schalke 04 last weekend when the Bundesliga campaign resumed following a hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Emre Can and teenager Giovanni Reyna are available for selection after they took part in training session on Friday.
‘’Witsel will definitely not be there,’’ Dortmund Head Coach Lucien Favre said in a virtual news conference on Friday.
‘’Can started yesterday with light training with the team and will train today as well.’’
Reyna missed last weekend’s victory over Schalke after getting injured while warming up.
Dortmund are still without captain Marco Reus who is sidelined with an adductor muscle injury. With 8 Bundesliga games left to play, it remains unclear when he’ll be return to action.
Dortmund are placed 2nd in the Bundesliga table, 4 points behind leaders Bayern Munchen.
