Karim Benzema nearly snatched victory for Real Madrid with his headed effort in the 75th minute. Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak produced a brilliant save.
Atletico Madrid managed 45% ball possession compared to Real’s 55. Atletico Madrid also managed 8 shots out of which 2 were on target. Real Madrid managed 11 shots and 3 of them were on target.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane felt that Real Madrid did enough to pick up victory against Atletico Madrid.
‘’We deserved much more, but what I have to do is congratulate the players since we have been supportive again and we kept a clean sheet. Its not just intensity, but what’s important is our strength. We saw a strong Real Madrid because we didn’t concede a chance. We are happy with what we did.’’ Said Zidane after the match.
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone admitted after the match that it was a tough match and his side lacked creativity.
‘’In the first half we were dominating the game and we couldn’t find any solutions in finding a goal. We had a hard time in that aspect. In the second half, Jan Oblak saved Karim Benzema’s header. It was a tough game, with both of us missing what it takes to win the match
New Real Madrid signing Eden Hazard had another quiet night as the Belgian failed to register a shot on target before being replaced by James Rodriguez in the 77th minute.
Alvaro Morata missed yesterday’s derby against his former club after an appeal against a suspension was unsuccessful. Morata was sent off in midweek’s clash against Real Mallorca by referee Alejandro Hernandez.
The result leaves Real Madrid at the top of the Laliga table with 15 points. Atletico Madrid are third with 14 points. Granada FC are second with 14 points but have a superior goal difference when compared to Atletico Madrid.
