Uhuru Kenyatta nominates Gershom Otachi as NLC Chairperson
President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Gershom Otachi as the new Chairperson for National Land Commission (NLC).
Mr. Gershom Otachi is a partner at a Nairobi law firm named Ogeto, Otachi and Co. Advocates. He has a lot of experience in International criminal law.
Mr. Otachi was one of the lawyers representing the former Police Commissioner Major General (Rtd) Mohammed Hussein Ali when he was implicated at the ICC.
A total of 9 members were nominated as members of the National Land Commission (NLC). These are Kazungu Kambi, Professor James Tuitoek, Esther Murugi, Reginald Okumu, Getrude Nduku Nguku, Hubbie Hussein Al-Haji, Tiya Galgalo and Alister Murimi Mutugi.
Now the Lands Committee of the National Assembly has a role to approve the names of new Commissioners to take office at NLC.
Lawyer Otachi defeated 11 other candidates to clinch the prestigious position of National Land Commission (NLC) chairperson. Mwenda Makathimo, Naomi Wagereka, Robert Kilimo, Tiyah Ali, Patrick Adolowa, Paul Wambua, Humphrey Njuguna and Gershom Bw’Omanwa had expressed their interest to chair the commission.
