A Canadian citizen has been sentenced to death in China for trafficking and producing large quantities of methamphetamine.
This is the second time that a Canadian has been sentenced to death for drug production as well as smuggling. The Jiangmen Intermediate People’s Court based in Guangdong province made the announcement. Ten other people were sentenced during the hearing the others included 4 Mexicans and one American citizen.

However, it is only the Canadian whose name was translated in Chinese as Fan Wei and another Chinese national named Wu Ziping were sentenced to death.
The trafficking and production is reported to have happened in March 2012. The two are reported to have been responsible for trafficking 63 kilograms of methamphetamine.
All the defendants were given 10 days to appeal the verdict.
Back in January 2019 Robert Schellenberg, a Canadian citizen, was also given a death sentence. This was the result following a quick retrial. This verdict worsened the relationship between China and Canada.
