Potiskum – A suicide bomber who attacked a high school (Government Science Secondary School) was dressed as a student when he entered the school compound on Monday. The students were on assembly when they met their death through the use of explosives which were in a backpack.
Boko Haram is the sole suspect for this fatal attack on innocent students. This militant group has executed similar attacks on civilians in the past.
This incidents is one of the bloodiest in the recent months. The school is located in Potiskum town in Yobe State. The previous week 30 people had been killed by a bomb.
Many Nigerian citizens are very angry at the fact that Nigerian military is unable to tame Boko Haram whose terrorist activities are increasing every day. At the beginning of the year, the group kidnapped 200 girls from Borno State.
The Associated Press (AP) who were on the ground interviewed a mortuary attendant who reported that the dead people appeared to be aged between 11 and 20 years. In addition to the 50 who died, 79 others were seriously injured and are recuperating in the hospital.
People from all over the world are protesting and urging Boko Haram to release the girls that they kidnapped. The militant group leader, Abubakar Shekau responded through a video clip saying that the girls had accepted Islam and now they are all married. That sounds ridiculous! These were school girls! Who said that they were ready for marriage?
“Who agreed to a cease-fire? You are not serious,” Abubakar said in the video message.
It has been approximated by the Human Rights Watch that over 500 women and girls have been kidnapped since the group started its activities in 2009. After the abduction the women are exposed to rape, forced marriage as well as slavery.
