OLX is a leading e-commerce platform in Africa which recent reports indicate that will close its offices in both Kenya and Nigeria.
On February 6, 2018 OLX Offices employees in the two countries were informed about the decision and their contracts will be terminated as from March 2018.
The reports in public domain have not provided data on the number of people to be affected by this decision. OLX has been struggling as a result of fierce competition in the online marketplace. The company has been a popular platform in Kenya where people sell goods such as used motor vehicles, machines and even livestock.
After the plastic ban in Kenya, ‘non-plastic bags’ became the 3rd most searched term on OLX after cars and real estate. This happened immediately after the Ministry of Environment started effecting its ban on plastic bags.
