Sharing is Caring

Langya virus has been detected on 35 people in China according to recent reports. Those infected with Langya virus reported symptoms such as headaches, cough, fever, nausea and fatigue.

Cases of Langya virus have not been very serious so far. The virus is also found in Shrews. At the moment, there are no cases of human-to-human transmission reported.

The Langya virus infections were reported in Eastern Shandong as well as in Central Henan provinces. At least 35 people are affected as reported by the New England Journal of Medicine.

The Langya virus is known as Langya henipavirus of LayV. Some of the patients developed impaired kidney and liver functions as well as blood cell abnormalities.

Research findings reveal that shrew may be the natural reservoir of the Langya virus.

Most of the patients are farmers of shrews. Currently, the Langya virus is not well understood and further investigations are being conducted to enhance that understanding.

Animal diseases that transmit to humans are known as zoonoses. World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that these diseases form the bulk of new and existing diseases around the world.
