A minimum of 20 people have died and 70 more missing after torrential rain triggered flooding in Germany which destroyed property and swept cars and homes.
Four people have been confirmed dead overnight as rain swept away six homes in Schuld. Another four people were found dead in flooded cellars across North Rhine-Westphalia state.
Two firefighters also died of the flooding. one of them died while trying to rescue people in the town of Altena. The second one died during rescue operations at a power plant in Werdohl-Elverlingsen.
According to a local newspaper, one person died in the town of Rheinbach, south of Cologne. However, the exact circumstance of their deaths are still unclear.
Rescue operations are ongoing in Euskirchen County where 8 people were reportedly killed by floods.
